NO SPOILER HERE! I will not give you a “Reader’s Digest” condensed version of this book.Nevada Barr’s Anna Pigeon series is an exceptional creation. It is unique in that each one of the books is set in a different National Park, though there are some doubles. Ms. Barr’s descriptions of the park, the inner workings of the National Park System, history, environment, flora, fauna and applicable issues make reading these mysteries a fulfilling adventure. Like many such series, it will serve the reader well to read them in order. This isn’t necessary as each mystery will stand alone quite well. But Anna’s personal story is the thread that makes the series complete. Anna herself is a masterful creation. Human, flawed, introspective, complex, she is the window through which the reader sees much of the beauty our National Park System has to offer. From Mesa Verde, the Florida Keys, Lake Superior to environments that are dry, wet, cold, and hot, the drastically changing settings and Anna’s evolving personal life keep this series fresh and engaging. It will be no surprise to the reader that Ms. Barr is a former Park Ranger. I’ll admit I haven’t read the last three books in the series – with good reason. They are my emergency kit. When I have waded through a piece of substandard literary junk and need a dose of quality writing, an Anna Pigeon mystery is a perfect fix. Yes, the Statue of Liberty is part of the NPS.

only because i have enjoyed all of Nevada Barr's books did i not give this 2 stars. too slow, uninteresting ,even the ending lacked imagination i was holding out hope while reading this book the ending would be worth the time I invested in it but that didn't happen either.
Nevada Barr never disappoints This book is no exception. I feel like I've been on an exclusive personal tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with my own private ranger and that we had some fascinating adventures thrown in along the way. Great suspense coupled with great writing.
A typical Anna Pigeon mystery a complex plot with lots of interplay among Anna, Fred, and Molly as backdrop. The only reason I gave it four stars (instead of five) is the annoying typos sprinkled throughout--mostly missing or misplaced quotation marks and repeated or missing articles or other minor words. (This about the eBook. I don't know if they are in the hard copies.)
if you like a lot of meaningless word and get lost because of all the descriptions that don't tell a story this book is for you. I never stop before at least 50 % in to the book. I stopped at 10% on to it because I had no idea what was going on. don't waste your time or money on this one. I never read any of her work but was told to try her.
This was not one on the better Anna Pigeon books. In the story Anna visits New York because her sister is very ill. She stays on Ellis Island with a park ranger friend. I miss the nature ambiance, instead there are a lot of architecture and building descriptions which are very difficult to visualize. It was nice to have Anna, her sister and x-boyfriend physically together and learn a bit more about Anna’s sister. The adventure part of the story is interesting enough and makes the book a good but not great read.
Finally I get to the book that the person who recommended this series highlighted. I love all the Anna Pigeon books, but this one especially since it's set "at home". Like all of these, they make me want to visit the parks and in this case it's actually possible.
While it's someone dated and quite possibly pre 911, it's a really good look at the Statue. I loved the inside look with Charlie. What a passion.
Related to the ebook itself, the quality isn't that look and some "Ferrys" read as "Berry" and "Kerry". Surprising as the other ones are solid.
Nevada Barr is one of my favorite authors, and I have read perhaps ten of her books. Nevada Barr bypasses the "formulaic" mystery story; she is a gifted writer, incorporating wisdom and insight with her words. Liberty Falling is one of her older novels, but I found it thoroughly engaging. The best thing about Liberty Falling for me, was her description of Liberty Island and the surrounding areas such as Ellis Island. Until I read her novel, I had no idea of the complexities of the islands and the buildings in ruins that still stand
amidst the fascinating memories that these islands hold.
