Ms Stein paints a beautiful description for the backdrop of her story and then draws you in with the her intriguing character development. You ache and cheer for Wenona as she struggles to balance her life between her native Indian heritage and her new life in the white man's world. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in learning about the Sioux and Navajo cultures.
I enjoyed reading this book from start to finish. Not only did she write about the valley I live in, her main character was a Navajo. My parents spent many years on the Navajo reservation, so I could relate to much of that as well. Her characters were real, with real life problems. Well done.
Wenona Black Elk doesn't know who she is. Born to a white mother and Indian father, she is given to her paternal family soon after birth. The stigma of a biracial child was too much for her maternal family to handle. But her father didn't want her either. Surrounded by extended family, she is raised with love. But it's not enough. Wenona yearns for the acceptance from her father. After years of rejection, she grows bitter and angry. Forgiveness, redemption, and the true meaning of family are wrapped in this compelling novel. Three Threads Woven is a story worth reading. You will cry and laugh and root for Wenona to become a strong, confident young woman. A surprise ending makes the reader rethink formed opinions and realize that things aren't always what they seem. Touching and well-written story.
